Dev Log 3
For the third week of game design, Tom continued adding new things to the top-down game, and I decided to branch off into trying something different. This week Tom added in enemies and continued to add in more spells that the players could cast. The enemies also use NavMesh, which prevents them from exiting the map area. I worked on a different game - a keyboard typing game. While the Keyboard Typing Game is entirely different from what we will be aiming to achieve, I wanted to see how playtesters would respond to a game focused on responsive actions. When the player does something, they see the direct correlation happening on the screen.
Keyboard Typing Game Natural Typing
Some positive feedback we received back (to note for the final production of the game):
- The players liked casting various magic spells at the enemies.
- The players enjoyed typing on the keyboards and seeing the keys fall off when they kept pressing them.
- The players liked running away from the enemies and casting spells as they were running away.
Some suggestions that the players suggested:
- Add a map/area that feels like it could be used on a final game version level.
- Add responsiveness to casting the spells - some players were confused about which spells were cast and their function.
- Add more elements (felt that three elements were not enough).
